The iPhone Duo is already changing hands on eBay at a steep markup. Within hours of US pre-orders opening on Friday, October 16, two Night Sky models sold for $4,400 and $5,000, each $1,800 above Apple’s price.
Vadim Yuryev of Max Tech spotted the sales as delivery estimates on Apple’s online store slipped to January 25 for every configuration. Launch day is still Friday, October 23, but new orders no longer show that date.
Two Night Sky Listings Sold for $1,800 Over Apple’s Price
Both sales are for Night Sky models, one with 2TB of storage and one with 1TB:
- The 2TB iPhone Duo sold for $5,000. Apple sells it for $3,199.
- The 1TB iPhone Duo, listed as a confirmed pre-order, sold for $4,400. Apple sells it for $2,599.
That markup works out to more than 55 percent on the 2TB model and nearly 70 percent on the 1TB. The 1TB sale was a pre-order, so that phone had not shipped when it changed hands.
Apple’s prices for its first foldable iPhone start at $1,999 for 256GB, then climb to $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB and $3,199 for 2TB. The iPhone Duo comes in Star White and Night Sky, with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display.
Inside is the A20 Pro chip, and the frame and hinge cover are titanium. Apple rates battery life at up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display. The rear camera system pairs a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera.
Limited Supply Has Hung Over the iPhone Duo Since Before Launch
Foxconn’s final assembly yield for the foldable was reportedly only slightly above 60 percent as of mid-September, with early output expected to be limited. Apple was also said to have added 30% to its orders in response.
Anyone who would rather not pay a markup has a few routes. Apple’s trade-in credit runs from $35 to $885 off an iPhone Duo with an iPhone 8 Plus or newer. Carrier offers go up to $1,200 at AT&T, $1,000 at T-Mobile and $840 at Verizon with an eligible trade-in, paid out as monthly bill credits over 36 months.
Resale buyers should check lock status before paying. A phone bought directly from Apple is unlocked in most cases, while one financed through a carrier stays locked until it is paid in full. Every iPhone Duo sold in the US is eSIM only, with no physical SIM tray.
