Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone could introduce one of the biggest display upgrades in years, with leaks pointing to a new iPhone liquid glass display designed to make bezels effectively invisible. The idea is not just to shrink bezels, but to make them disappear from your line of sight entirely, creating a seamless edge to edge viewing experience.
This rumored redesign focuses on perception as much as hardware. Apple is said to be working with Samsung on a new OLED panel that curves subtly across all four edges. Unlike older curved phones that bent aggressively at the sides, this approach uses a much gentler curve that keeps the display practical while visually hiding the borders.
The iPhone liquid glass display is reportedly built on an equal depth quad curved panel. Instead of relying on obvious curvature, it uses optical refraction and light guiding structures to bend how light reaches your eyes. That means the edges of the display could appear to fade away, making the screen look larger and cleaner without actually increasing its footprint.
Apple is also expected to adopt Samsung’s COE technology, or Color Filter on Encapsulation. This replaces the traditional polarizer layer found in current OLED displays. By removing that layer, Apple can make the display thinner, improve brightness, and reduce power consumption. In practical terms, this could lead to better battery efficiency and a more refined display stack.
Another detail mentioned in leaks is a “pol less” display design. This aligns with the move away from polarizers and supports Apple’s goal of pushing the display closer to the physical edges of the device. Combined with the subtle quad curve, this could deliver the closest thing yet to a truly bezel less iPhone.
Apple is also aiming for a fully uninterrupted front with no visible cutouts. However, this depends on under display Face ID and front camera technology being ready. Some analysts suggest under display Face ID may not make it in time for 2027, which means Apple could use a hybrid approach with Face ID under the screen and a small camera cutout remaining.
All of this points to a major redesign planned for the 2027 iPhone, which marks 20 years since the original launch. Apple typically uses milestone releases to push new hardware directions, and the iPhone liquid glass display fits that pattern. It is less about dramatic curves and more about making the display feel like a single uninterrupted surface.
