The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

3g 8gb doesn´t come with 3,1 it comes with 3,1,1 i guess u got 2gen
Great job! my ipod touch jailbroke in just s few secs.fantastic. now i have another question. you mentioned something about blackra1n not working on MC models. does it only apply to ithouches or iphone 3gs too? it's cause my iphone 3gs's model starts with MC.=(

i have an ipod touch 3g and i get to the guys pic then after that it jst goes black can u help me with this plzz
right ok i did this and did it exactly by the book. it worked fine for a while, i installed cydia and winterboard but about 20mins later the touch screen wasent responsive and it turned off all a sudden, now it wont turn on… my computer doesnt show i and itunes doesnt pick it up it also doesnt go into DFU mode.. and ive tried again with Blackra1n but it keeps saying waiting for phone…
can someone please help on how to turn it back on thank you

hey mi itouch wont reboot.. i tried re-runnning the application but it still wont reboot…
when i jailbreak, itunes asks me to recover, i tried pressing SHFT+recover, choose iPod3,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw file, but it doesn't let me recover, what can i do?

open i tunes disconec your ipod hold the home botton..still pressing conect your ipod now leave the botton and now you can restore from itunes good luck

I just bought a 3g ipod touch, and tried to jailbreak it with blackra1n out of the box……….6 times ;(
No luck and I gave up.
Everytime I tried to run it I had to do a restore on itunes.

my ipod wont turn back on once it shuts down it says, Done, waiting for reboot, on the jailbreak popup window.
If you're using Vista, DO NOT use compatibility mode! It wouldn't work unless I did it without compatibility turned on. Once I turned that compatibility off, voila… 3 seconds and done
WTF?? It ended up bricking my iPod while downloading my first jailbroken app :(

i heard that on the itouch 2nd G, if on the model number it starts with MC it cant be jailbreak. Is this true?
