The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

hi, the jailbreak works on my ipod touch 3.1.2 but if an ipod is jailbroken you should be able to download ALL the apps for free but how does that works?

ok so i went to jailbreak my itouch 2gen 3.1.2 and when i click make it ra1n, it loads and all this then my itunes loads saying it cant load my ipod please restore it. i now restore it then what?? either email dylanisbest@ymail.com or just respond here
i have a ipod touch 8 GB 2nd generation with 3.1.2 update it gose through fine till itunes pops up and says ipod in recovery and my ipod shows the plug into itunes screen i have to restore my ipod and it has nothing on it any help
That's not true. You still have to buy apps which aren't free.
its because the jailbreak is not 100% perfect yet, if you jailbreak it, you can't turn off your ipod, and if you close it, you'll have the “re-jailbeak” it
what happend is that i did black rain and then when i did i played wih it but i shut it off and then i went back to 'plug into itunes' icon so i did and then is repaired itself then stoped. i looked at it for a second and then saw that blackra1n and cydia and the rest wasnt there so now i have to keep rebbotting and rbooting it but how do i make it stop nd just keep it jailbroken withno problems and not rebooting twice or more cuzz its pissin me off
same thing and it pisses me off cuzz i have to reboot it again

Wow man thats the shit! first gen ipod took around a minute then i unplugged it and rebooted and i was like oh no its not working. The i re broke it one more time and Bamn less then 9 seconds your picture showed up i was soo happy great work!

everything works except when i restart my iTouch i HAVE to connect with iTunes than i MUST repair my iTouch than everything is gone

its clearly stated there, no need to jailbreak again.
Just plug it to iTunes and upgrade it. Then jailbreak
You have to download certain apps and patches using Cydia to get them free. If you need any help just contact me at farlin [dot] pz [at] gmail [dot] com
if u already ran blackra1n on ur itouch/iphone and you later get the plug into itunes. dont restore with itunes. instead plug ur device into your computer and re run blackra1n. your device will become usable again and you wont loose any of ur applications or data.
