The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I downloaded the feature fine but when i try to download Cydia or Rock it times out and its pissing me off. I normally get crappy wifi reception is that probably why?
i just bought a new 32gb ipod touch and i used blackra1n it worked fine at first but the next day my screen blinked out and when i restarted my ipod it gave me the connect to itunes logo so i reapeated the prosses and it happened again

whoops i asked this already on the iphone page, but i dunno maybe its different for itouches, is it supposed to stay on the restore screen (the one with the itunes logo and connector cable) for a long long time? or is something going wrong?

Untethered. Tethered jb is for 3rd gen models.
Connect it to your computer, close itunes and run the jailbreak tool again.

I just got a 32 gig i touch and my friends tell me i can't jail break it because it will mess it up and void the warranty. will this program work? or is there any risk involved?

I'm running my jailbroken iPod touch 2nd gen on 2.2.1 and i have downloaded the 3.1.2 so should i just restore my ipod with the 3.1.2 firmware and then jailbreak it??? I need help please.

WHAT!?! Tell them they don't know anything.
It won't void the warranty cause you can just restore it.
there IS a risk but really low and doesn't do much.
Anyway i have a 32GB iTouch (2,actually 2nd gen and 3rd gen)
And they are jailbreaked with 3.1.2 up and running!
