The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

it is not working for me. it said your ipod is jailbroken but it wont go off the screen with the itunes and a usb cord showing to go in it please help
Whenever I try this, black rain thing stays on 'entering recovery' and my iPod screen has a USB cord and iTunes on it. Nothing else happens. Is this supposed to happen?
hey I had this problem tons of times then I did it and when it said it was good and restarting I unplugged it and it worked fine you might need to restart power and stop button but it should work and help…

Okay…honestly, I've jailbroken (if thats the word) my iPhone twice and my ipod touch 2g twice…and this is the easiest, fastest and obviously the best way to jailbreak ur ipod…reboot normally took me atleast 2 hrs and this thing….the reboot just took like a minute….this is the best jailbreakin software ever!!!
Um i have a problem, the George picture (or whatever you want to call it) is stuck on my iPod screen with the loading circle below it. ive tryed resetting it but it wont let me and ive also tryed running blackra1n too but that wont work either so what do i do?

what worked for me was NOT running with the xp compatibility and NOT running as administrator.

hi i followed the steps everything works great i get the message that my ipod has been jailbrocken but my ipod just stays on a black blank screen does anyone have suggestions
For some it works with those modes, for some it doesn't.

so i have the newest ipod touch 8gb model running on 3.1.2. and when i did the jailbreak it worked fine but whenever i try and reboot my ipod or turn off and then back on again i have to re-install blackra1n and run the jailbreak again to get it past the itunes symbol w/ the usb cord. is there any way to get by this so i can turn it on and off while not having to constantly re-download blackra1n.??? please comment to help me
When using “Blackrain” to jailbreak any reboot will require to use Blackrain again. For this reason avoid rebooting or running your battery down.

I jailbroke my 3g ipod touch, using blackrain on a Mac. It worked, and I installed Cydia probperly. But the thing is every time I install an app, or reboot my Ipod, it reboots in recovery mode. So I am guessing that is what happens with mac users, and why it's only working for windows?
I have windows 7 installed via parallels.. but I don't feel like transfering all my Itunes info on windows, so Should I wait till they find a way to jailbreak 3.1.2 on a mac?

ok i ran blackra1n and it came up with the icon that said it was jailbroken i waited about 15 minutes for it to reboot it finally did but there was no blackra1n icon in my apps and i did not see the pic of geohot can anyone help?
does this mean i can download apps and upload them to the phone
