The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Yes, but if you have iTunes 9 or above it backs up, so the next time you sync they will go on without deleting cydia or any of your new apps from it.

It’s been about 35 minutes and the program still says “entering recovery” and the USB and itunes screeen is still on my Ipod Touch 2G. Version is 3.1.2
plz help. I have ipod touch 2g i ran it perfectly very smooth and very fast, but i am having one problem when i back up my programs, photos and vidz it doesnt let them back in to my touch, i only can put movies and photos that i drag and format to itunes in there no apps. its giving me an error. i follow the instructions and it work well however after rebooting my ipod touch it doesnt go straight were it should be and it’s prompting to hook it up to itunes.
i tried several times to restore. hope you can do a remedy on this problem.

i used blackra1n and jail broke 3.1.2 ipod touch 32gig 3g and its all running smoothly :) and if any one is freaking if it gos to restore mode if you reboot or turn it off then your a bit noobish… blackra1n is a teathered jailbreak but the only one for 3.1.2 3g ipods teathered means you cant turn off or you lose the jail break if you do then DONT restore simply let it ra1n again and it will be fine :) thanx alot

Well I just got my Ipod touch 3.1.2 yesterday , and I just did the right things what they said and no problem when I did Jailbrake, but I still not add free App from I download to my Ipod touch from Itune, and when I go to Cydai and update some App but when I chick completed and my Ipod touch just reinstall , are you sure this is work with Ipod touch 3G?
Please help. Ok i have a first generation ipod touch. I restored it and updated to 3.1.2 firmware. Then i download blackra1n. Then I ran blackra1n but when i cilck make it rain, all of a sudden it freezes and itunes opens up saying that I must reboot it.. and it keeps doing this. I tried at least 3 times.. PLEASE HELP
Don’t restore 1t. Just run Blackra1n and wa1t (lol).
Works perfectly, just when i turn off it (when it crashes) i have to restore the ipod…
i did the whole Jailbreaking think umm it got to the George’s pic thats where the problem starts, it has the little spinning icon but after it just turns blank black, i dont know what to do, got any suggestions?
