The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Ok i jailbroke my ipod with firmware 3.1.2 and it worked great =). I downloaded cydia and rock and i was getting themes and when i was waiting for one to load in rock my ipod just shutoff and it wont turn back on.Please help me…any suggestions?

I’ve done the jailbreak to my ipod, and everything is fine, the only things that bothers me is that the ICY doesn’t appear in the menu of BLACKRA1N, am I missing of something important??

Don’t worry. Blackra1n does only so called “tethered unlock” of iPod Touch 3g now. It means you have to run blackra1in.exe every time you switch off your device. I don’t know when this feature will be fixed. I hope soon :-)

Problem: After all of the steps when you see Georges face, Well instead of that i Get a Black screen so i Started over ( held power and home blah blah blah)
I have tried this over 7 times, but with the same result, When i let it just stay black after approximately 15 minutes Nothing happens

Ok I don’t understand I opened Blackra1n and downloaded cydia and, there is no icon on my ipod app pages and when I went into search bar I found it. Please tell me how I can get the icon on my homescreen.

hey umm well the same thing happened to me. i turned it off, and tried to turn it back on but all that came up was the apple sign and a loading circle thing.
what you have to do is open itunes, plug the ipod in, turn it on. and after awhile it should come up with something (if your running on windows) saying that theres something decected, but it cant be recognised.
so what i did was a googled it, and it said to polug it in, and hold the off button and the home button. it then says that message, but dont let go, you have to keep holding both buttons i did it for i think 3 times (it turns on and off) and then i let go of the off button, and it should come up in itnes, then u have to restore it , but it works fine. i have had to do it twice, i used the jailbreak software redsn0w, doesnt really work well…

Well… first you have to go into cydia and download installous (just google instructions on how to do that)… after that you go into installous and search the app you want, go to the download site and get it…

nvm figured it out and works good on ipod touch 3g
well at first couldnt figure out how to work it but i had itunes open so while jail breaking it just have it closed and run the program otherwise itunes will try to recover it
