The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I have followed all steps and are on my ipod with Blackra open and started to download Cydia. from here it starts to down load but after long time comes with an error message

Hey i am having problems jailbreaking my Itouch 2g i have upgraded to 3.1.2. I run blackrain it says entering recovery mode and then running. When i t goes to running it stays ate the connect to itunes symbols for a little while and then the screen go black. and about 30secs later its say done wait for reboot, which it doesnt do . I hvae recovered and restored is many times and tried again but it doesnt work. Please Help . Thanks
hi i’m having th same problem as you John. as well as the connection timing out sometimes it doesn’t even come up. i managed to download rock but does anyone know how to get games using rock? please anyone can you help.
i had the same problem. The way i got it to jailbreak finally was i updated itunes to its most recent update. After that i tried Bkackra1n (Jailbreak) and it worked!!!!!
I tried 20 times to jailbreak it and the only thing i had to do was update itunes!!! WOW!!!!!

i’ve already installed blackra1n, found out, i need my ipod touch connected to wifi to install cydia. wifi is neccessary.
I followed all the directions but yet nothing happens, when i click let it rain, all it says is entering recovery mode , and then my ipod just has the screen that tells me that i have to plug it into itunes, and i tunes tells me that i have to restore it, when i restore it , it isnt jailbroken.
Don’t restore it. Just connect it to your computer again and run blacnkra1n again.

Hi guys…I bought the iphone 3G from Ebay and I just received it…Do I need to activate it through At&t before I jailbrake and unlock? or what should I do?? It has an At&t sim card inside…I don’t live in the USA so I can’t activate with AT&T, so can I just unlock it and get it to work? or how can I activate the phone without getting service plan from at&t?? thanks!! all help will be really much appreciated!!
need help, i’ve successfully downloaded cydia and all that stuff, but when i connect my ipod to Itunes to put some more music in it, itunes doesnt read it and i have to restore the software and blah blah blah and everything goes away again… what do i do??

i was kinda skeptical about this while reading the comments, but it only took me like 2 mintutes or so plus the 6 minutes from installing the 3.1.2 software for my itouch. so far its working great so thanks !
