The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

i have a ipod touch 2g 8g with a model number starting with MC, is it possible to jailbreak at all using this method? some say no but others say new version fixes that. is there any1 that can help please?

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING THE PROBLEM WITH ITOUCH 2G, when it tells you to plug it into iTunes and to restore it, DON’T RESTORE IT. Go to properties for blackrain and uncheck the “run this program compatibility.” So you’re basically just undoing step one. I have Vista and once I did this, it worked perfectly.

Hey i am having problems jailbreaking my Itouch 2g i have upgraded to 3.1.2. I run blackrain it says entering recovery mode and then running. When i t goes to running it stays ate the connect to itunes symbols for a little while and then the screen go black. and about 30secs later its say done wait for reboot, which it doesnt do . I hvae recovered and restored is many times and tried again but it doesnt work. Please Help . Thanks
just a side note on my last message. i get to the “entering recovery…” phase but it just hangs on that… as i said a MC model but i heard RC2 and RC3 fixed those issues and wont be a problem anymore but obv not for me. :( if any1 has any idea then please comment back
i do have one problem… pls help… im done JB using blackra1n rc3. .after JB,all my apps from appstore (paid and free apps) are not working fine. it will show just for a few secs and then close. whats the hell goin on?.. T_T

task manager-processes-end process for itunes helper
put the blackra1n file in the C/drive
make sure no other programs are running
connect ipod and open the blackra1n file (run as administrator)
then click ‘MAKE IT RAIN’

umm need help, I have a new 3g 3.1.2 itouch and I tried to work the blackrain, connected it to computer, I think itunes was on, and I used ‘Make it rain’, it ran until it said to reboot and my itouch has george’s goofy face frozen, I can’t do anything with my itouch and my computer can’t recognize it either, what to do?

Blackra1n.exe do rest alone :D 2-3 minutes and we have jb ipod :D
