The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I did the Jailbreak on my itouch. But I keep this error message when I try and install Cydia (Domain=NSURLEDomain Code=-1009 UserInfo=0x19be20 “no internet connection)

the iphone (os3.1.2) is jailbreaked but when i restart it the jailbreak isn’t there and it doesn’t work. i have to jailbreak it again that it works… same with ipod touch

Hi I was just reading on how to jailbreak an iPod touch but I have a few questions. First I want to know if blackra1n is safe for a 8gb 3g iPod touch. Second, I’m confused about the part on where the iPod is tethered. So does that mean If I plug in my iPod to iTunes, I have to download blackra1n all over again? Thanks a lot!
I have a brand new 3rd gen ipod touch. As long as you A. go to offical sight http://www.blackra1n.com it should work and teatherd just means every time you turn off your ipod touch you have to re connect your ipod touch to your computer and re run black ra1n (all your stuff will still be there.)
Blackra1n is not a Windows only application. It has a Mac OS version too. Im not sure where you got that info that it is a Windows only. Its the only one that has a windows version but its not a windows only.
Also Blackra1n is not yet sufficient to use on a 3G touch since when you switch it off you have to reactivate it in your computer.

Okay, I figured it out. This is the only way I was able to get the icon back. I restored the ipod and reinstalled blackra1n. It was the only way I could do it. Try it, if it doesn’t work, my apologies but it worked for my 3.1.2 3rd generation ipod touch.
i jailbreaked 3.1.2 fine. installed Rock and downloaded a ‘??background app??’ application from it. It said the ipod needed to reboot to use the application but the ‘usb cable- arrow to- itunes logo’ has been on the sreen now for about 5 minutes. What should i do? Restore?
just reconnect your ipod to your cpu and run blackra1n again

the jailbreaking does not work. Then if you struggle with recovery mode and no RESTORE works, the problem is:
– you are using Win XP
Solution for Restoring:
– you have to find someone with Win Vista or Win 7.. download iTunes(correct version for the right system) and then you will be able to restore.

okay im having the same problem as just about everyone else here about using blackrain and then it doing the connect to itunes screen after i reboot. i did it on my 8 gig 2 gen 3.1.2 and it worked perfectly but after jailbreaking a couple of my friends itouches and it does the connect screen. any help would be great.

That latest iTunes version is 9.0.2. I suggest that you upgrade to it.
hey imran i have a question i ran blackra1n more than once and sometimes i get stuck in the black screen or the recovery mode…i had it in the recovery mode and i ran blackra1n again and now im just stuck at the black screen i keep trying it bt no luck any ideas of what should i do it would be a BIG THANKS if u can help…..
If I connect to it, where will my apps go? I don’t have the original files cause I installed the apps directly from installous on my ipod.

where can i get blackrain that has no bugs or trogin.
whenever i turn off my jailbroken ipod touch 3g it goes to the screen that says connect to itunes everytime so i always restore it. Is there a way to get past it without restoring. And also how do you download stuff from cydia. because i tried to download the five icon dock and it wont appear.
I have that problem too. If I slide to turn off or my iPod battery diesit will go to the iTunes USB thingy is there a way I can safely turn off my iPod without having to turn on the computer then findthe website and redownload the icon? Is there a way I can fix this
My I pod is a 3g 8 gig and whenever i try to download an app off of cydia i need to reboot my ipod but then it says connect to itunes. Is there a way i can get out of that screen without having to restore my ipod?

to get out of the connect to itunes screen run blackra1n on your com……while installing backgrounder on my toucg 2g 8gb the screen came up and it was fixed this way. it is a great solution because it keeps all apps and settings-unlike itunes-and is really quick.
Also does anyone know how to stop the connect screen from showing every time my battery dies or i turn it off……it is really annoying to have to keep using blackra1n to unblock it
Is there a blackra1n RC3? I saw it on another website and it said that it can jailbreak an Ipod touch 3G 8Gb MC model but it will be tethered. Is this true?
