The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

hey, i jailbroke my ipod and now it gets stuck on the connect to itunes screen (tethered) is there a way to untether it?
Anyone know where to get some apps for free that you can only get with a jailbroken ipod touch?
hi i got my ipod touch the other day.
i wanna jail brake it but every one seems so negative about it. what should i do because i dont wanna mess up my ipod.
Every time i try to install Cydia, it says “Downloading Cydia”, but the bar doesn’t move for like a minute, then it shows this error message:
Could Not Download.
Error: Error
Domain=NSURLErrorDomain
Code=-1001 Userinfo=0x19f4f0
“timed out”
What do i do?
once an untethered version comes out, will I have to format or can we “upgrade” our jailbreak to untethered. (and if so, must it be yours or can we upgrade with any jailbreak app?)
btw, how close are we to a tethered version? not rushing. just curious.

i download blackra1n on my IPod touch 3.1.2
(7D11) and i rebooted my IPod more then twice but every time i try to download Cydia i get this message…

When I jailbreak my iPod, will everything that’s on my iPod stay there ? Such as my muzic, notes, apps etc. ?
Yes, Blackra1n just adds Cydia.
i really dont understand this i have the i pod touch 3g 3.1.2 and i downloaded it and clicked run (i have windows by the way) and clicked make it rain and it did not show a picture of anybody it just went black for 30 min then went back to normal. what am i doing wrong???????????????
yeah me too with the slide icon whatever you said. So if there’s no rc4 what should we do I mean sit and wait? Is there another place to easily jailbreak your iPod? What to do what to do. I just don’t want to have to keep plugging it in when it dies. Any suggestions?

Tried more than 5 times.. I had all programms but it remained un-jailbroken
didnt work for me but imma try agian and see what happens
i click on the windows, click run, click run again and it keeps saying something like error but not error exactly it says C:\Documents and Settings\pat\Local Setting\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\2O08LMHW\blackra1n[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application
I’m not exactly sure how long it’s supposed to take, but it’s been going on for a while now… Is that supposed to happen?
