The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I did the Jailbreak on my itouch. But I keep this error message when I try and install Cydia (Domain=NSURLEDomain Code=-1009 UserInfo=0×19be20 “no internet connection)
I have an internet connection. I am able to get in the itunes store. Do I need to create an iTunes account before I can download any applications? Can you explain to me why im getting this error message?

hi i posted on another comment but i don’t know if that was the right thing to do so i’m just reposting. i have the ipod touch 3g 32gig i’ve jailbroken it with blackra1n but when i go and download free apps from itune and install it, it doesn’t load up on the touch. what am i doing wrong?
well i did that and i turned it off then i had to reboot everthing again! What do i do to stop that?

hey every1 i have a question i ran blackra1n more than once and sometimes i get stuck in the black screen or the recovery mode…i had it in the recovery mode and i ran blackra1n again and now im just stuck at the black screen i keep trying it bt no luck any ideas of what should i do it would be a BIG THANKS if u can help…..
and yes i saw geohot pic and the wheels spinning my porblem is that it doesnt wanna reboot back idk y i tired so many times just keep getting stuck in the black screen or recovery mode…… :( PLZ ANY1 HELP!!!!! ill return the favor……

its keeps telling me 2 restore it i already have it connected 2 itunes if i would 2 run it i would just go 2 the black screen idk y early i got it 2 geohot pic bt it just went back 2 recovery mode when it suppose 2 bring me back 2 my itouch menu
same here but I got a mac. Itunes pops up and says, ” Itunes has detected your ipod in recovery mode. You must recovery your ipod before using it with itunes.” I can recover it and everything is back to normal I just want you jailbreak my ipod touch 3rd generation unteathered. HELP!

Cydia doesnt let me download it says no internet connection and rock takes forever and i dont think its moved in a while even though im sitting next to my router… any help?

i ran everything n downloaded cydia n everything went through but my music,app store videos and safari apps are gone
i did what you said, and when i clicked on ‘let it ra1n’ my ipod had the spinning wheel, and then for some reason it went to the ‘usb -> itunes’ screen, which only happened to me when i first got the ipod? now my computer doesnt even recognize the ipod, it just says ‘found new hardware’ but i cant get it to recognize it.. help pleaseeee! its just stuck at the usb/itunes screen :$
ps. i have opened itunes and it doesnt recognize it either. also, im using windows xp.

I got blackra1n to work (yay!)
but whenever my iPod turns off (iTouch 3G 3.1.2.)
It’s just a blank white or black screen. and there’s many times where i had to restart everything, only to reinstall blackra1n again.
Just now I finally got it to work but I’m not sure if it’ll work every time. Is there a step-by-step process u can give me to make sure blackra1n stays on my iPod when I turn it back on and plug it in?
dont let your itouch be switched off after jailbreaking it, bcoz if u do then you will have to repeat the whole procedure again
