The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I have a ipod touch 3.1.2. I think 2nd Gen.
Everything goes well on the ipod while using the Blackra1n, it shows his face or whatever, reboots.. then tells me to connect to itunes.. and i have to reboot..

i have a question. i jailbroke my friends 2g itouch with this blackrain file. (its very cool)
and it was jailbroken.
now i have a 3g itouch 3.1.2, and i jailbroke it, but wen i went on itunes, it said that it detected my itouch in recovery mode, so i had to restore it.
im gonna try again but i be4 i do, i want to know how to solve the restoring the ipod problem cause i have about 50 apps, and i dont wanna find all my apps all over again.
my itouch 2g 3.1.2
it wont sync the apps to itunes…and i do have app sync…it worked a while ago..but now it doesnt…help plz :D
For those who still can’t jailbreak 3.1.2
1. Connect your restored to original Ipod to PC
2. Shut down all Itunes processes
3. Run blackra1n.exe and press “make it ra1n”
4. Ipod will reboot and blackra1n will appear on the Ipod screen
5. Navigate to blackra1n on Ipod Touch and Ran it. Install Cyndia
6. Run Cyndia(don’t upgrade when asked!!!)
7. Go to Manage -> Sources -> Edit -> Add -> type sinfuliphonerepo.com -> click “add source”
8. Go to find and type Appsync. Install AppSync for OS 3.1.2
9.Go to find and type Install0us. Install it.
10.Go to find and type iFile. Install it.
11.Find on Cyndia and install Automati SSH, Open SSH, Toggle SSH
12. Install Winscp on your PC. Run it.
13. Host name is IPod’s Ip address. user – root, pass – alpine
14. Press Save then login. Type alpine in password field again.
15. Now u shouldhave access to all folders on Ipod.
16. Put ipas to root/var/mobile/downloads
17. Go to Install0us on Ipod -> downloads. Install Ipas.
18. Ipas are installed to root/var/mobile/applications

hey does how much % does black ra1n work. my cusin did it and it worked for him but i need to know how much it works for other people befor i do it to mine?
this was so easy. after i downloaded and restored my ipod with 3.1.2 firmware it took less than 30 seconds for me to jailbreak it.
PLEASE HELP, I did jailbraik, my ipod won’t start up again untill i restore my ipod :(

Alright I jab the itouch 3g an have cydia and winterboard but when I select the stuff on winterboard nothings comes up as my theme I’ve tried like everything…. What do I do

after I jailbreak my itouch and download Cydia, everything works great. The moment I download an something from Cydia my Itouch shuts down and wont turn back on untill I restore it on Itunes. What do I do?

What are you trying to do? Cydia is to install “unsigned” apps on your touch…
u hit the cydia button and you search for apps you want… good luck!
