The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

i cant download cydia nor rock in my iphone. need help!

i have an 8g ipod touch firmware 3.1.2 if i use this to jail break it will it be tethered? i’ve read a lot on blackr4in and it says the only way to hack the 8g 3.1.2 is tethered jailbreaking. is there any untethered jail breaking process?

I’m wondering if you guys could help me.
I jailbroken my ipod just fine but everytime I had to reboot it, it always get stuck at the itune + usb recovery screen.
There is a way to fix it and get it boot it up again, but plugging it back into the computer and make it rain again.
My question is, does anybody else out there have this same problem? And how to fix it so I don’t have to keep plugging it back and making it rain everytime I reboot the ipod touch.
BTW it is the 2nd gen touch, 8gb, 3.1.2.

Yea i seem to have the same problem when i try doing it on my friends ipod, its an 8gb as well. It works fine on my 16gb though. Anyone know why this could be happening? Please let me know asap.
you cant turn off the ipod or let the battery die beacuse the jailbreak will be gone

You would have to restore your ipod by clicking Restore on itunes.. it will return your ipod back to factory settings

does it delete all your data when you turn it off or does it just delete installous
It doesn’t seem to delete anything but it just have a problem with booting up.
It will get stuck at the usb + itune screen again and the only way to get it boot up is to “let it rain” again with blackra1n.
After it boot up, everything you had on there will still be there.
But I’m trying to find out if anyone out there know of a way to bypass this.
I have another problem.
I downloaded a theme from Cydia and now it’s asking me to reboot my device…i have no other option but to reboot it or else I wont be able to use Cydia.
I have the new iPod touch and i already have alot of apps from installous but I have NOT connected my ipod to itunes yet cause im scared its gonna mess up

Its fine to reboot, but if you get stuck at the usb+itune screen then just let it rain again.
After i downloaded Rock i downloaded a theme then it said it was going to reboot but it didnt, so i turned it on nd it stays on the usb + itunes screen so i plug it in then itunes says its in recovery mode nd that i have to restore it. If i click restore will i loose everything? what do i do?!?
Ze Bob – you can disable this feature by next time when you connect your ipod to your system and when you get the itunes screen then click your IPOD shown in the list and you should have a itunes sync window and then click on summary and there you need to check the option for manually manage your music etc… make sure uncheck the option for automatically start itunes when you connect your ip with pc… this should take care of this issue.

Hey, I accidently deleted the blackra1n icon…I have restored it a few times now and then tried to reinstall blackra1n. The icon still won’t come back…any help????
Try erasing all the data on your iPod, do a clean install of the firmware using iTunes and then try the jailbreak again.
so i restored it but when i clicked it ran the blackra1n it messed
on my screen and now the pic of that guy is stuck on my screen and it wont end
