The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Hi, could someone help?
I tried making it rain, after that it said that my gadget will be rebooted in recovery mode.
and then the blackra1n entered recovery mode. It’s been hours and nothing happened. I unplugged the cable and repeat the processes, but now it’s stuck at the black screen with usb->iTunes logo – the blackra1n.exe is also stuck wirh “Waiting for device” message.
any clue, guys?

I deleted the blackra1n icon from my ipod but I can’t get it back. I tried erasing my ipod but it doesn’t work.
I don’t have a wi-fi connection from home, is there any way I could download Cydia from my home computer and put it onto my iTouch 8gig that way?
No i dont think you can. Just go to a place that has free wi-fi & download it. You can go to starbucks, mcdonalds, borders, etc.. Hope i helped.

my problem was when i install blackra1n to my ipod touch 64g and the app showed ok
i did not have wifi internet signal that time, so i deleted the blackerain app by mistake then tried to install it again but nothing showed for that app again on the screen i tried to go to other page in ipod not possible
I tried to restore ipod by iTunes it gave me wrong message every time
please help me what can i do to return blackra1n back

When I download it, and it says you’re done I reboot my itouch and no blackra1n is there? PLEASE HELP!!!

Okay, I’ve gone through 10 pages of comments and haven’t found one full proof way of fixing this:
I have an iPod Touch 3G 32GB and whenever I try to make it ra1n it just goes into recovery mode and doesn’t do anything, I then click make it ra1n again while it’s connected and nothing happens at all. Please give me a very helpful comment.
Did you figure it out? My iPod Touch 64GB is connected via USB and has the same logo on it – the usb cable pointing to iTunes. I tried making it rain several other times but nothing….no response on my iPod. I can’t even turn it off….
