The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

whis is stupid, I don’t like the idea of having to run blackra1n everytime you reboot. What if you need to reboot when you are on a trip, and you can’t. Very rehtard, I jailbreaked mine, and than i decided not too because of this hogwash nonscence reboot thing. And now I have to delete everything, reset it, and download an update.

It did not work for me either. I followed all the instructions, started the file in XP Compatible mode, had all the apps closed in my machine. I had to restore all my apps. It’s totally not worth it. By the way, I have Ipod Touch 3g with 3.1.2 version firmware.

ipod 2nd gen(3.2.1.) whenever i click make it rain my ipod turns into an itunes logo and adapter nuthings happening i had to restore it again and i had to wait another 2 hours to get it back to normal whats happening? plzzz help :(
whenever I press the “make it ra1n” button, my ipod touch(3g 32gb) never gets the picture. It just has a blank screen. Is something wrong with it?

When I tried jail breaking my ipod touch 3.1.2 on a mac, the picture came up and it said wait for reboot, but nothing happened ,it just stayed black. I don’t know if I have to wait longer or what.
For now I just keep restoring it.

i upgraded my ipod touch to 3.1.2 by downloading it from a site then when i restored it downloaded it for me off itunes but now my apps wont work and wont show up when i download them from rock or cydia
is that really possible to jailbreak touch 8gb mc? cuz as i read some other forums, they say it doesnt work on that firmware. i tried to do jailbreak many times but each time i tried, it was on the DFU mode. there is a program named iphone browser. when i tried to browse the device, it just reminded that it was not jailborekn. i am really wondering whether it works or not.
I restored my ipone 3g and now it wont load up what can i do to get working again.

Blackra1n does work with 3.1.2. I have a 3rd gen ipod touch and I jailbroke my ipod with blackra1n. When you plug it in just follow the instructions. The only thing is you cant ever turn your ipod off or you will have to redo the jailbreak process with blackra1n all over again, but it does work .
I was able to unlock just fine. But the only issue is when you turn the phone off it asked to connect to itunes in recovery mode. is there a fix for this yet?. I know i read somthing it has to do with the boot order now. any suggestions?
you must have the ipod 3rd generation. those you cant turn them off or connect to itunes when jailbroken.
DO NOT use this method if you have ipod touch 3g 3.1.2 because i did it and when i turned my ipod off it stuffed up and i had to restore it. PLUS themes DO NOT work
If you had read the instructions properly, you’d know that running blackra1n again fixes the restore issue when you restart your iPod Touch
