The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

i tried to jail brake, i ran the software and did every thing it sed, but its just went straight into recovery mode, is this bad?
i been using blackra1n app for my ipod touch for almost a month now without any problem.. :D
if your ipod/iphone wont reboot after the installation or everytime u restart ur phone/ipod (DFU mode), just hook it again to your laptop and run blackra1n app.. let the blackra1n do the rebooting and thats it!! no need to do anything
i just jailbroke my ipod touch with 3.1.2 software and it had to restore all of my apps and memory. should i have itunes up while jailbreaking or not?

it seems to work fine but when its done it wont reboot and i cant use my ipod…i tried to restore my ipod using itunes and it said it cant restore now i cant turn my ipod on at all…when i tried it showed a picture ot the usb going to itunes icon on the main screen wat do i do?

rust plug it in and wait for the connec to itunes to pop up and then run blackra1n

i just bought itouch 32GB and i have upgraded it to 3.1.2 in my itouch youtube is not working wi-fi is ok only youtube is not getting connected anyone knows the solution for this, i am unable to view youtube videos also. Thanks in advace
haha you got the most annoying problem. go to cydia, manage, sources, edit, add cydia.pushfix.info, and youtube fix #3
Hey, the solution is… BECAUSE It is a TETHERED jailbreak… YOU HAVE to have it connected to your PC or MAC, and then once you see that it is still on the itune and USB cable DFU mode… then just runra1n again, and it will boot up and you will see blackra1n there.

ok so i jailbroke my ipod touch 2nd gen and everything is fine with the jailbreak except when i turn off the whole ipod and reboot it , it shows the connect to itunes sign how do i fix this problem because i would like to reboot it on occasions thanks.

i have just jailbraek my ipod touch 3g 3.1.2 but i want to download some apps butt which program do i need for that
you have to open up cydia/rock (whichever you downloaded) then go to manage then sources. click add source. then type in cydia.hackulo.us. once u did tht then go to the search tab and type in installous. install that then open it up. if there is a toll bridge than the answer is cavern. once that is done then all you need to do is search for one or type in a name of an app and install it. sounds complicated but its not
