The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I have installed blackrai1n and the icon has come up, when i click the icon nothing seems to happen?? help!
i ran black rain and clicked ‘make it rain’. after this the ipod went went into recovery mode with the usb and itunes logo on it however after a few seconds the screen turned pink and yellow and distaughted the screen. help please
wtf?! i install it.. and then i click on the make it rain… then it restores my ipod touch… wtf!?!?!?!
i got it! install this and when the button or screen comes fr u 2 plug this into itunes you restore it… and unplug this and plug it bak in and it will take u 2 original setttings with everything on it including black ra1n !!!!!!
kk guys, dont restore no matter what. had the same problem and all you have to do is run blackrain again on it. everything will be fine. same procedeure. plug in ipod and execute blackrain. done. what have you go to lose????????
i jail broke my ipod touch 3g(64G) all was working well but suddenly something wrong happened. i dont know but when i m trying to install 3rd party applications, it gives me this error…0xE8008001 ans says unable to install the application. previously it was allowing me to install it. but now i m not able to install. whats the solution? my version is 3.1.2
when i go onto cydia when ever i want to downoad a app i walways have to reboot my ipod.
I was getting ‘entering recovery’ after following the procedure. It went through after bypassing the compatibility mode….my 2 cents
when i download blackra1n no picture comes up,,,just a blue screen. Comment back for solutions
i jailbroke my ipod touch 3rd gen with the OS 3.1.2. firmware it went fine. I can download cydia just fine but when i download a theme for the first time it tells me downloding winterboard and te theme. When it is done is gives me the reboot button, when i click it, it turns off my ipod then turns on and gives me the apple logo. And it goes in to recovery mode. Can somebody help me please?

Hi, to those who want youtube to work you need to go to cydia, then manage ,then manage sorces, edit, add : “http://fishbone.ge”
once this has been added click on Fishbone. scroll down and find “Push Notification fix” click install.
to get apps for free, you need to go to cydia, manage, sorces as above then add : “http://cydia.hackulo.us” when this is installed , click it and search or installous and install. :)
