The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

well i am new to jail breaking in fact i barley knew what JAILBREAKING mean before now. my conscious is having a civil war deciding if i should jail breaking is worth it. i got 4 pages of PAID applications and aww forget it ill google it.
mine wont work, that guys’ face wont appear, it just goes to recovery mode and nothing happens.
if ur itouch keep showing the itunes thing it means u have to recover and upgrade to 3.1.3. also all itouch 3g cannot be jailbreak with 3.1.3 but others like 2g can use red snow

add hackulous as a source in cydia, get the appsync and installulous apps…bingo, installulous will be your new source for cracked ipa files…i.e. free app store apps

how do i jailbrake my 1g 3.1.2 ipod? my ipod does everything exept the spiny thingy on the bottom of the kid’s picture, then it goes back to regular ipod mode… is there a way i could do it for my 1g???
my friend made me try it but i did not want to take a chance so i told my friends about it and then my others friends tryed it n they were mad because now it took 3 weeks to download the app called facebook and my ipodtouch it takes a min so unless you want to try it then be ready to wait a long time to just download one app
this is not the case with my ipod… i hav a 3.1.2 gen iTouch and bought it before christmas and it runs beaaauuutifulll
after i “Make it Rain” my ipod touch 3.1.2 (8g) goes to a screen showing an itunes icon and a wire and wont let me access it until i restart the ipod and Blackrain doesn’t work. how do i get past this problem?
hey matt, that happened to me too, it kind of sucks, but its really simple… all u have to do is hold the home and power button untill it turns off… then connect it to ur computer and u’ll have to restore your ipod. try the make it ra1n after that and it should work
when u try it again make sure u click download instead of run and then click open folder and when u open it right click on its name and click properties and go to compatability and check run this compatabillity to windows xp and then click ok and then double click it and runn it

i jailbroken it once then after a while my ipod 3g turned black so i restarted it and the blackrain was gone so was all my stuff on it so i had to recover all my stuff and now i cant rejailbreak my ipod. it jus shows the connect to itunes sign.Any help?

Anyway I can just upgrade to 3.1.2? I have 3.1.1 right now and iTunes will only download me straight to 3.1.3.
