The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Ok so i plug in my iPod 3g then i open up blackra1n i make “make it rain” and it goes thru all fo the steps it needs to then it say’s “done, wait for reboot” on blackra1n so then i wait then wait but the only thing on my iPod screen is a black screen CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

To reboot you just press the hold button and home button at the same time for like 15 secs, let go of the hold button but keep pressing the home button for like 8 secs and wait for the apple sign to come on.
every time i jail break it i will do everything that i want done to it then when i plug it in or shut it off and turn i back on it goes into recovery mode.. how do i keep it jailbroken with out having to lose all my stuff eveytime i plug it in??
this is ordinary activity… you should not lose anything when u replug it, simply jail break. i have had to do this several times but its worth it… and i dont see the reason to turn it off if u charge it
This may be a scam … like the others that wrote I downloaded br to my ipod touch 3.1.2 and now nothing works … everytime I turn it on it shows the cable and itunes icon and I had to restore the ipod… now I have firmware 3.1.3 which you get automatically from itunes when you restore … if I did something wrong let me know, but others trying this, beware.
It’s NOT a scam. If it doesn’t work for you, don’t use it. But don’t spread misinformation.
you should try several things before giving up. I had the same problem, i simply redownloaded 2 times and ran blackra1n and it worked. you have to learn perserverance
Same probem my daughter accidentally updated it to 3.1.3 I have two new ipod touch’s 32 gig mine is fine but daughters just shows black screen help.
Hello i accidently deleted the black rain app from my ipod and cant get it back how can i put it back on my ipod?
i deleted blackrain to and tried to put it back on but when it gets to the part where its supposed to reboot it just goes to the locked screen and it nevr finishes installing what do I do?

buy a charger then.. untheatrd jailbreak will only allow jailbroken itouch3rd gen to run smoothly without being turned off.. sleep mode will do,,..

relax Imran … as you can see it’s not working for a lot of people … I did see on youtube someone who was jailbreaking his ipod touch and it was a MA model and he made a point of saying it was a MA not a MC model … mine is a MC, maybe that’s the problem.
man i just jailbreaked my ipod but when i wanted to download a them it syas u need to restart the ipod to continue and i coudnt get out even when i tried to turn it of so now i have to do the new update and im not even sure if they have a jialbreak for3.1.3 3g i pod touch now i think this sucks

The blackra1n on my computer wont stop saying “done, wait for reboot.” I’ve rebooted it a thousand times and now I don’t know what to do because the “done, wait for reboot” message wont go away.

This worked perfect for me when i had the 3.1.2 version on my ipod 3g, but then i updated and cant find any to jailbreak ther 3.1.3. Will this work on the version 3.1.3?

you can tell if it is a mc or ma goo to settings and click about and it should say model. from there you should find model and it will say model ms or ma

if your jailbreaking takes more than 1 minute and is stuck on recovery mode. do what i did
first-unplug ur ipod and turn it off by holding the power button
second-restart your computer
third-reinstall darkra1n
fourth-just as you run it, reconnect your ipod and it should work
