The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

MC model can be jailbroken.. i can see how the itunes cable symbol is a problem, what you have to do is follow the steps like Geohotz said, download blackra1n, download cydia, etc. then go into cydia, set hacker, complete upgrade, download any them in sections, and when it says reboot device, dont reboot just yet, plug into your computer, go to http://www.blackra1n.com then reboot your ipod.. when you see the itunes cord, re-run your jailbreak through windows, or Mac depending on what you have, then there you go(: if your ipod does happen to die or mess up, you dont have to restore it, re jailbreak it and everything will be there. this works for all ipod touch and iphone 3.1.2. and for 3.1.3, ipod touch 1-2nd gen and iphone 3rd gen and 3gs. not ipod touch 3rd gen just yet for 3.1.3.
I have the ipod 3rd generation and its updated to 3.1.3 and i know i cant jailbreak it now, but does anyone know if il be able to soon??????? someone help me out if you could

i have jailbroken my ipod doing this before, but during the weekend for some reason my computer deleted my itunes as well as my iPod2,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw and now everytime i try to use balckra1n, my ipodgoes to a black screen (while on) and i have to end up restarting it, what do i need to do to jailbreak it again

okay heres my problem…when i install balckra1n to my itouch it restres then i c a cable sign and then when its done there isnt a blackrain app. i have V 2.2.1 is it not compatable with that?

I had the ipod touch 3g 32gb originally on 3.1
Purchased the 3.1.2 upgrade through itunes, then jailbroken it.. worked like magic… Dropped it in alcohol a few parties ago :) and since then i bought a new one. The new one was 3.1 again, i jailbroke it witouht doing the 3.1.2 upgrade, so after this long boring story, my question is this:
Am i still able to somehow upgrade to the 3.1.2 then jailbreak that? or am i stuck because itunes no longer digitally sign/approve that fw?

I always tried to jailbreak with itunes but then it was successful in jailbreak is then to reboot it at itunes
itunes has detected an iPod which the repair mode. You must restore this iPod before you can use with itunes

After you get it jailbroken, and the ipod touch gets rebooted, you will have use blackra1n once more because this jailbreak is teathered.. meaning on everytime your ipod/iphone needs to shutdown/reboot, its going to be on the restore mode (the itunes logo with the usb connection on the screen)… simply connect it up to blackra1n once more, jailbreak it.. and it should be fine..

wow… thats all i have to say, ive done many jailbreaks before, but this one is just.. wow, you didnt have to reload all your music you didnt have to re-download all your apps, you didnt even have to wait to download an ipod os. bravo…
Ok, so I have done this Jailbreak thing on my macbook… I have the 64 gig ipod touch 3rd generation and once i downloaded the blackrain and i clicked make it rain, my ipod displayed the apple symbol and is now on a blank screen. It is lit up but a blank screen. How do I fix this? I have done this many times and nothing…… Should I forcibly reboot my ipod becase blackra1n is telling me that i have to “wait for reboot” but it’s taking forever…
ya same here… i have a 3g 32gb and ive had a blank screen for like 10min now..
This really sucks cuz now when I restored my ipod I had not synced so I am missing $15 worth of apps. I have the receipt by email though…. What do you think I should do? It’s not on my computer or ipod and in the app store it says to buy all the apps… I already bought them though!!! XO
ok you have to restore and then make it rain and if it does not work you still have a use full ipod so love it oh and do not try to down grade your firmware
