The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

uhhh. will this work for the ipod touch 3g 32gb?
I have the iPod touch 3g 32gb as well but I still have the 3.1.2 software and blackra1n works fine except every time you turn it off, when you want to turn it on again or if you reboot it, the screen will have an iTunes icon and a USB cord pop up (basically apple’s way of trying to fight jailbreaking by trying to get them to restore your iPod but it will take a lot more than that) and you have to rejailbreak it (or “make it ra1n”) again everytime you turn it off. It doesn’t bother me that much because I just never turn it off. I just lock it and it goes into standby. However, I think doing that will deterriorate the battery a little faster. I don’t see any need for the 3.1.3 update and nor do I know how it will affect the Blackra1n jailbreak. The jailbreak is completely worth some of the slight problems with it instead of paying hundreds of dollars on apps. And by the way the MMS Flip from cydia messes up your AppStore. And I forgot to mention that the reboot problem with the jailbreak only exists on the iPod touch 3g and problably future generations.

it doesnt reboot every time
and now its stuck on a black screen, and i cant do anything with my ipod, and everytime i try to run the program it instantly says “your ipod has been jailbroken…” but nothing changes, it just says “waiting for reboot” but never reboots

i have a 3rd gen 32g ipod and i relizes as long as i dont update to 3.1.3 or what ever it should be fine well im haveing a problem with the inital download onto my laptop i go 2 blackra1n’s website and download the file to my laptop and all it does is lock my laptop up. any solutions? also the icon never pops up on my laptop it just sayd download complete and then my pc freezes.

how do i download my apps now?
i have a 64 gig iTouch that i just bought and i tried to jailbreak it. it goes through and the lil screen that tells you that your iTouch has been jailbroken comes up but when the device reboots nothing happens. i tried it several times and i rebooted it several times. any ideas what could be happening ?
