The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I’m worried if I try something like this all my songs/photos may be lost because I don’t have a pc with my music on it. I just plug it in to other peoples computers to format it. Can someone direct me to a program that can rip all my music so I can have a backup of my library saved?

hey my ipod touch is 8gig 3generation to jailbreak it will i need to down grade it and i bought it with version 3.1.3
I jailbroke my ipod touch. It all works well, except for when I switch my ipod off and then on again. Once the ipod has restarted again, it says it needs to be plugged into the usb for itunes (the same as when you first use the ipod). I ran blackrain again and it works. How can I resolve this issue so that I do not need to plug it into my computer everytime I switch it on again?

When it says that my jailbreak is finished and to wait for it to reboot, it takes forever and when i restart the ipod myself, the blackra1n icon isnt on my ipod. :(

Hey everyone my ipod crashed yesterday playing epw, and it went to a white screen, after that it shut off and now it says plug into itunes.. when i do i try downloading blackra1n again, but when i do that it just gets stuck on the picture of geohot for 10 mins, then goes back to apple logo and plug into itunes, please help me, i have the 3.1.2 version im pretty sure i haven’t downloaded 3.1.3. Thanks

How long should it take to reboot for ipod touch 3g?
I need help, I’m running Windows 7 32-bit. And I did everything that is explained in this post. But when I click on the program Blackrain a window pops up and says “The program can’t start because ASL.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” How can I fix this? Of course the program opens after that, but when I click on “Make it rain” windows says that the program has stopped working. Please help :(
I did downgrade my ipod to 3.1.2 so I think I would have no problem. It’s probably just my PC

so is the blackra1n link damaged/corrupt or missing files cause its pretty suspicious thats the case since the “ASL.dll is missing” error message shows up….and that shouldnt have anything to do with the firmware version being wrong since its opening up the program…

I have the same problem as well. I have looked at hundreds of tutorials to fix and nothing has worked so far.
