The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

So The program ran successfully and I got the message saying it was successful, however the blackra1n icon does not appear on my iPod

Put it into DFU mode, restore the firmware, and run blackra1n again
I start blackra1n and press let it ra1n. But it keeps saying enetering recovery and on my ipod screen it shows an Itunes logo en an USB thingy… I left it like that for a night and it still says the same? What did I do wrong, I followed the stepts perfectly!
Same happened to me… repeat the make it ra1n part and it should work. :)
But I have to renew Ipod or else it doesn’t sync anymore with Itunes :S

Click on the windows button of you have windows and the apple logo if you have a mac.
My ipod touch will not charge or sync to my computer at all, but work it works fine on the wall charger. i’ve tried all possible solutions and still doesnt work. Is there a away i can fix it? will this program work for it?

i clicked let it rain button but when i did my ipod’s screen just stayed black, and a message poped up and said that it was jailbroken… but it wasent, then itunes poped up and said that i need to restore my ipod but i already did before i instaled blackra1n…. what should i do?

I jailbroke my iPod successfully last night and I’m pretty excited. My brother jailbroke his iPod before me, and I have access to his apps, except I’m not sure how to put them on my iPod.
I downloaded OpenSSH, I have installer–I’m pretty much all ready to go; I just can’t get into my iPod with iTunnel. I’m thinking maybe it has something to do with my brother’s previous use with it?

you can transfer apps instalous just make sure that under settings it says that you can transfer them to itunes

Don’t upgrade if you want to keep the jailbreak
if you havent already updated it and you want to first off you have to get rid of the 3.1.2 jailbreak or it will screw up your ipod so you have to get rid of it, get the update (if you want to), and then get the jailbreak for 3.1.3
