Living Earth is a $5.99 clock and weather app built around a 3D globe with live clouds and storms, and version 4.50.1 now spreads that globe across the iPhone Duo inner display when you unfold the phone.
The app comes from Radiantlabs, LLC and is available on the App Store. Recent updates added closer zoom, place search, hourly forecasts under each day, and support for foldable devices.
The Earth fills the inner display and zooms in on land and city lights
The update gives the globe a bigger stage on the iPhone Duo, and it also lets you move much closer to it. The globe now shows far more detail in the land below, city lights come into focus on the night side, and clouds sharpen as you zoom in.
Version 4.50 changed several other parts of the app.
- Borders and place names appear as you get closer, and tapping a city’s name shows its weather
- Search finds any place on Earth, zooms the globe to it and lets you add it to your saved Cities
- Tapping a day in the forecast opens its hours right below it, and Details shows the full day with charts
- Search, Layers, Storms and Weather Labels moved into the More menu on iPhone and the toolbar on iPad
- Wind can show in Beaufort again, and the app works better with VoiceOver, Switch Control and larger text
Living Earth also opens faster, and a new Tip Jar in Settings sends up a rocket with every tip.
Live clouds, storm alerts and eclipse alerts run through the globe
The globe shows live clouds from near-real-time satellite data that updates every hour, including global cloud patterns, hurricanes and tropical storms. You can switch to live and forecast maps of temperature, humidity and wind, and check hourly and 10-day forecasts for any city on Earth.
Notifications tell you when new tropical storms form and change strength. The Moon appears in its current phase with the stars and the Milky Way around it, and the app follows eclipses as they happen, with the Moon’s shadow sweeping across Earth or the Moon turning deep red. You can turn on an alert for the moment a total eclipse begins in Settings under Notifications.
Weather data comes from CustomWeather, Earth imagery from NASA, and cloud imagery from NOAA and the Japan Meteorological Agency. The developers say the app has no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and your saved cities sync through iCloud across iPhone, iPad and Living Earth for Mac.
Living Earth costs $5.99 and the Tip Jar is optional
Living Earth is a paid app with in-app purchases. The App Store lists purchases named Low Earth Orbit at $1.99, Geostationary Orbit at $4.99 and Lunar Orbit at $14.99, while the Tip Jar in Settings lets you support the app with a tip.
Other utility apps have also updated for the foldable, including Gentler Streak, which has a major update for dual screens, and many more sit among the best iPhone Duo apps so far.
Living Earth is a 168.6 MB download that requires iOS 18.5 or later and supports 11 languages.
