Mac shipments rise by almost 49% in Q4 2020, outpacing all other competitors

Apple saw its global Mac shipments grow by 49% in Q4 2020, beating all other major OEMs in the PC industry, as per a report by IDC. Canalys also reported 45% growth in Mac shipments, year-over-year, when compared to Q4 2019, while Gartner reported just 31% growth for Apple.

The increased number of Mac shipments can be attributed to increased demand during the pandemic when almost everyone has been either working from home or remotely studying online. This growth has seen Apple become the fourth biggest vendor in terms of market share and shipments globally.

IDC reports that Apple shipped 7.3 million Macs in Q4 2020, worldwide, for a 49.2 percent growth year-over-year. In Q4 2019, Apple shipped 4.9 million Macs. Apple’s global market share has also gone up from 6.8 percent to 8.0 percent.

IDC’s numbers show Apple rank number 4 in global shipments, but it shows the biggest growth out of the top 5 companies, followed closely by Acer.

Canalys

As per Canalys’ report, Apple ranked number 4 in terms of shipment and market share in Q4 2020. Apple sold 7.1 million Macs in Q4 2020 and grew its market share to 8.9 percent. In Q4 2019, Apple shipped 4.9 million Macs and had a market share of 6.9%. The numbers show Apple leading in terms of annual growth, again followed by Acer, but at a distant second position.

Gartner

As per Gartner, Apple shipped 6.9 million Macs in Q4 2020, including the new M1 chip MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. This marked a 31.3 percent growth in Mac shipments for the company, year-over-year, while market share increased from 7.3 percent in Q4 2019 to 8.7% in Q4 2020. Gartner’s numbers also show Apple leading the pack with the highest growth in the quarter.

In the United States, Apple ranked behind Lenovo in terms of year-over-year growth, at 32 percent. Apple sold 2.7 million Macs, and increased its market share to 14.3 perent, compared to 2 million Macs in Q4 2019 and 13 percent market share.
