Realme prepares to copy iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island

Realme, a fast-growing Android smartphone manufacturer, is asking its fans for ideas on how to copy iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island. The company has posted a “Creators’ Challenge” on its forums asking fans how it could implement a copy of Dynamic Island on realme devices.

The post on the company’s forums asks fans to submit ideas in the form of drawings, GIFs, or text, to demo how a realme Island could look like, and work, and how it would be beneficial to users. Unsurprisingly, the company calls it an Island, not that it would make any difference.

Realme’s post talks about how the camera cutout could turn into a multifunctional feature and morph into different shapes and sizes to display notifications and alerts.

What is realme UI added a software trick to turn the camera cutout into a multifunctional feature? The UI around the camera hole could morph into different shapes and sizes to display incoming phone calls, alerts, notifications, and more.

Finding this idea quite appealing, we at realme have decided to turn to our loyal fans for ideas and suggestions on how such a software feature could be implemented on realme devices.

It’s not surprising that Android OEMs are already preparing to copy iPhone 14 Pro’s beloved Dynamic Island feature. What is shocking is that the company is not hiding that it is copying the feature, or marketing it as something else. Perhaps the challenge is a way of showcasing user demand before implementing and shipping the feature, but in the end, there is no doubt about where the idea originated from.

The irony is that realme already knows how to implement the feature by looking at iPhone 14 Pro, but it still wants to ask its fans so that the company’s UI developers can use the winner’s idea. Make of that what you will.

Xiaomi users can already get Dynamic Island on Android devices by using a theme.
