Users report massive iOS 14.2 battery drain on older iPhones

Apple seeded the latest iOS 14.2 update a month ago and since then, users are reporting huge battery drops on social media. Users have repeatedly reported that their iPhone battery has been taking a hit ever since they updated their phone. According to some reports, many users have experienced a massive 60% drop in battery overnight.

iOS 14 brings many new features and changes to the compatible iPhone like accessibility tools, home screen customization options, widgets, App Library, new privacy features, and more. As excited as people are with the software capabilities, they are also upset with the huge drop in battery life in the latest update.

Users are sharing the battery drain issue installing iOS 14.2 on Twitter, Reddit, and other social media platforms stating that they are experiencing drastically reduced battery life since the update. According to one user, there was an 87% drop in an hour. It appears that owners of older iPhone models are experiences the issue more than the new iPhone 12 models. 

Such issues have been reported in the past whenever a new iPhone software update has been released. Apple had recognized the problem and provided a solution on its Support website, but it has since removed the page.

On the support page, Apple had detailed several issues that users may face after updating to WachOS 7 and iOS 14. The list also included battery drain, Health data, inaccuracy Activity app data, and missing Workout GPS.

How to fix iOS 14.2 battery drain issue

As for the solution, Apple proposed that users do a full reset of their iPhone. This included erasing all content and settings and then restoring from an iCloud backup. If someone is getting issues with Apple Watch, they should unpair it from their iPhone which will erase the Watch’s settings too.
