TypeDraw Notebook App Opens When You Unfold the iPhone Duo

TypeDraw is a $4.99 notebook app for iPhone that opens the moment you unfold an iPhone Duo. The foldable goes on sale today, October 23, and TypeDraw is built to greet it with a fresh note as the two halves open.

The app comes from Shaped Fonts, a type foundry that sells its own handwritten and script typefaces. It is listed on the App Store, with a requirement of iOS 26.0 or later. At the time of writing it sits at No. 4 on the US top paid Productivity chart.

TypeDraw opens to the note you want, whether blank, recent or nearby

When you open TypeDraw, you choose what appears first. It can be a blank new note, the note you wrote most recently, or the note captured closest to where you are standing. On a regular iPhone you swipe to open it, and on the iPhone Duo you unfold the phone.

Apple’s design team has said paper notebooks inspired the iPhone Duo’s design and drew its proportions from the A-series paper sizes. An app that treats unfolding as opening a cover follows the same idea.

The pages follow the notebook theme, and you can pick lined, grid or dotted paper, set the paper and ink colors, and type anywhere on the page the way you would write in a real notebook. You can also curl the pages and draw with your finger.

TypeDraw includes a collection of 12 handwritten typefaces from Shaped Fonts, so anything you type looks written by hand. Shaped Fonts lists 42 typefaces on its site, covering sans serif, serif, script and handwritten styles.

The app can also turn your own handwriting into a font you can type with. You keep typing on the keyboard, and the notes come out in your own hand.

A Home Screen widget is live now and Apple Pencil support follows later this year

Version 1.2 adds a Home Screen widget that jumps to your favorite sections, creates a new note, or opens your nearest or most recent one. The update also includes smaller interface improvements.

The developer says Apple Pencil support for the iPhone Duo arrives later this year. Separately, code in iOS 27 points to Apple Pencil hover support on the foldable.

TypeDraw needs no account and stores notes locally on the device, and the developer reports that it collects no data from the app.

TypeDraw costs $4.99, weighs 33.4 MB, requires iOS 26.0 or later and supports Family Sharing for up to six people.
