Apple not offering USB-C AirPods Pro case separately – Here’s why

Apple recently introduced an updated version of its second-generation AirPods Pro with a USB-C charging case. These new earbuds bring several exciting features to the table, marking a significant advancement in wireless audio technology.

However, unlike previous moves to introduce wireless charging cases, Apple has decided not to offer the USB-C case as a standalone purchase.

Apple Vision Pro compatibility requires new USB-C AirPods Pro

In a recent press release, Apple announced that the updated second-gen AirPods Pro will offer support for 20-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio with ultra-low latency. This audio prowess comes to life when the earbuds are connected to Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset, scheduled for launch in early 2024.

Apple is positioning this combination as the pinnacle of wireless audio, suitable for entertainment, gaming, FaceTime calls, and more.

AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB‑C) will enable Lossless Audio with ultra-low latency to deliver the perfect true wireless solution with Apple Vision Pro. The H2 chip in the latest AirPods Pro and Apple Vision Pro, combined with a groundbreaking wireless audio protocol, unlocks powerful 20-bit, 48 kHz Lossless Audio with a massive reduction in audio latency.

What sets these AirPods Pro apart is their upgraded IP54-rated dust resistance. Both the earbuds and the charging case now feature this added durability, ensuring they can withstand more challenging environments.

The decision not to sell the USB-C case separately seems to be tied to the earbuds’ new capabilities, particularly their compatibility with the Apple Vision Pro headset. This development may present a challenge for those who currently own second-gen AirPods Pro with a Lightning port and are considering an upgrade to the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro, which feature a USB-C port for the first time.

Without the option to purchase the USB-C case separately, users aiming for a streamlined cable management solution across all their devices will need to invest in Apple’s new USB-C to Lightning adapter, priced at $29. On the other hand, if you want the full experience of Apple’s Vision Pro headset, you’ll need to consider purchasing an entirely new pair of second-gen AirPods Pro with USB-C.

You can get your hands on these cutting-edge AirPods Pro today, with orders starting at $249. They will also be available in stores beginning Friday, September 22.
