Apple to launch HomeKit and UI updates but no new hardware at WWDC21

One of the major events of the tech industry, Apple’s WWDC21 is just hours away and as usual, we have intel on what to expect at the developer’s conference. Anonymous leaker with a reliable track record has shared a series of tweets that hint at new HomeKit updates, and user interface changes for iPhone and iPad. Interestingly, he also mentioned that there might not be any hardware updates at the event.

WWDC21 is expected to be a software-centered event with new features and improvements introduced on iOS, iPadOS, macOS Big Sur, watchOS, and tvOS. But it was also reported that Apple will launch two 14-inch and 16-inch M1 MacBook Pro models with a new flat edge-to-edge design language, next-generation M1X chip, and more. Recently, new filings of 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were found with the Chinese regulatory authority. The filings were was done by Apple supplier ‘Sunwoda Electronic’ for batteries, 8693mAh and 6068mAh, for new MacBook Pro models. And now it is reported that we should not expect the launch of new hardware today.

Apple will not launch any 14-inch and 16-inch M1 MacBook Pro models at today’s WWDC21 event

Referring to Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini, @L0vetodream tweeted that Apple might introduce improvements to HomeKit. In the screenshots that he posted on Twitter, he has highlighted Thread, which is available in the new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini, which likely means that HomeKit updates might feature Thread or Matter API support.

The leaker also mentioned that there will new UI changes, but he did not specify which operating systems or apps will get these changes. The upcoming iOS 15 update is speculated to bring a new Lock Screen interface, widgets, redesigned icons, iMessage, enhanced privacy, new health features including a food tracker, and much more. It is also claimed that updates to Safari and Maps will be introduced at the WWDC21 event.

However, L0vetodream is the only leaker who is sharing that there will no hardware updates at the event. The leaker wrote ‘I feel no’ when asked if Apple will launch hardware products at WWDC21.
