Apple has released the IPSW firmware files for iOS 27.0.1 and iPadOS 27.0.1, so you can update or restore an iPhone or iPad manually from a Mac or Windows PC. Both updates use build 24A446. iOS 27.0.1 fixes a Face ID bug that could restart the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, a camera color artifact and a touchscreen freeze. The update had already turned up in testing last week. Apple’s iPadOS 27.0.1 notes only say that the update provides bug fixes for iPad.
An IPSW file is the full firmware package for one device model. It is useful when an over-the-air update keeps failing, when an iPhone or iPad is stuck and needs a restore, or when you manage several devices and would rather download the update once. Each file is tied to a specific model, so check Settings, then General, then About for your exact model before you download. Restoring With an IPSW File Can Erase the Device
The steps below install the file from a computer. Back up the iPhone or iPad to iCloud or a computer first, because a full restore wipes everything on it.
- Download the IPSW file that matches your exact model
- Connect the device to a Mac and open it in Finder, or to a Windows PC and open the Apple Devices app
- Hold Option on a Mac or Shift on Windows, then click Check for Update
- Select the IPSW file you downloaded
- Wait for the install to finish and the device to restart
Clicking Restore instead of Check for Update erases the device and installs a fresh copy of iOS 27.0.1 or iPadOS 27.0.1. Apple usually stops signing older builds soon after a new one ships, and an unsigned file cannot be installed. Apple is currently signing build 24A446 for the iPhone and iPad models listed above.
