Apple rolls out first watchOS 7.4 beta to developers

Apple has seeded the first watchOS 7.4 beta to developers. The beta release comes a few days after the launch of the watchOS 7.3 update which included a new Unity watch face in celebration of Black History Month,  “Time to Walk” audio workouts for the Apple Fitness+ service and availability of ECG feature in  Japan, Mayotte, Philippines, and Thailand, and a bug fix for Zoom accessibility feature.

The public version of the latest watchOS 7.3 update came after two beta releases and one candidate release in approximately two months time period. Therefore, it is possible that Apple might follow the same pace for watchOS 7.4 developer and public update.

To download the developer beta version, users must have a beta profile installed on their Apple Watch. For $99/year, users can register for Apple’s developer software program or wait for the public beta which should be available in a few days.

Existing users with beta profiles need to go to the Watch app on their paired iPhone and open the Settings app > General > Software Update to download and install watchOS 7.4 beta. It is necessary that the Apple Watch has at least 50% battery and is placed on the charging puck throughout the installation process. And users with a passcode on their smartwatch will need to enter the PIN code for the update process to proceed.
