Apple HomeView took years to reach shoppers, and two Apple executives now point to Siri AI as the reason it could only launch now. The $299 smart display ships Friday, November 13, after a development run that reportedly slipped well past its first target.
Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of product marketing for home, told The Verge that Siri AI and the personal context it brings finally came together with a device built for the home. She said it works in “a way that we haven’t been able to deliver before.” Drance also tied that personal context to Apple’s privacy pitch.
Mark Gurman reported in November 2024 that Apple was aiming for a March 2025 launch. That date slipped repeatedly, and Gurman has long pointed to Siri AI as the main holdup. Apple’s executives now describe it as the missing piece.
Apple Treats Siri AI as the Reason HomeView Exists
Lilian Rincon, Apple’s vice president of product marketing for AI, gave The Verge a similar answer. She said Siri AI is central to HomeView because it is far more capable than the old Siri and handles natural conversation. Her example was asking for a thermostat change in plain language.
Rincon added that natural language is the point where AI goes mainstream. A mother-in-law and a college student can both ask for what they want in their own words and get it.
Apple’s announcement frames the device the same way. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel personal to each user, with Siri AI drawing on personal context from your iPhone.
That personal side shows up on screen, because HomeView can recognize you without Face ID and identifies up to six household members by face to show each person their own Messages, FaceTime and Calendar content.
Apple describes Siri AI as more conversational, with broad world knowledge, richer music discovery and onscreen awareness, and that version of Siri only arrived with iOS 27 this year.
Apple says HomeView will not be sold in the European Union, one of the regions missing from the launch country list, because Siri AI is currently unavailable on iOS there. The company also says it is working with the EU on a way to bring these products to the European market.
HomeView Launches Alongside Apple Home Collection and a New Apple TV 4K
HomeView costs $299 and pre-orders opened on October 13. The new Apple TV 4K, which also runs Siri AI, ships on the same day.
Apple also announced Apple Home Collection, a lineup of indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats, temperature sensors, a video doorbell and a door lock made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. HomeView controls them alongside other Matter and Works with Apple Home accessories.
Apple Home Collection will be available starting in December, with select accessories arriving in early 2027.
