Apple discontinues $4.99 Apple Music Voice Plan

Apple recently announced the discontinuation of the Apple Music Voice Plan. This lower-cost option, introduced in late 2021 as part of iOS 15.2, allowed users to access Apple Music’s entire library of over 100 million songs using only voice commands. It was the most affordable Apple Music plan, but it also had some limitations. For example, users could not download songs for offline listening, create playlists, or view lyrics.

Apple no longer offers Siri-powered Apple Music Voice Plan

Apple has not explicitly stated the reasons behind the discontinuation of the Apple Music Voice Plan, but there are a few possible explanations. One possibility is that the Apple Music Voice Plan was less popular than Apple had anticipated. While voice-controlled music playback is convenient, it may have been too limiting for some users, especially those who wanted to access features such as offline downloading, Spatial Audio, and Family Sharing.

Another possibility is that Apple is shifting its focus to enhancing the overall music experience for its customers, which may involve investing more resources in higher-tiered plans with features such as immersive Spatial Audio and real-time lyric displays with Apple Music Sing.

Apple Music currently offers three other plans:

  • Student ($5.99)
  • Individual ($10.99)
  • Family ($16.99)

The Student plan is available to eligible students, while the Individual and Family plans are open to everyone. All three plans offer access to Apple’s full library of over 100 million songs. The Student, Individual, and Family plans offer all of the features of the Voice Plan, plus additional features such as offline downloading, playlist creation, and lyric viewing.

The Student plan is the most affordable of these three plans, and it is available to eligible students. The Individual plan is the most popular Apple Music plan, and it is a good option for users who want to listen to music on their own. The Family plan is the most expensive Apple Music plan, but it is a good option for families with up to six members.

Overall, Apple Music remains a robust streaming service with a diverse array of plans and features to cater to a wide audience. While the Voice Plan’s departure might disappoint some users, Apple Music continues to offer an enriched music experience for its subscribers.
