Apple Pay is now available in the Philippines, allowing iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac users to make secure contactless payments using supported debit and credit cards through the Wallet app.
The launch expands Apple’s digital payment service to another market in Southeast Asia and lets customers pay in stores, apps, and on supported websites without using a physical card.
Supported Banks and Cards
Early users report that Apple Pay is currently working with cards issued by several major Philippine banks, including:
- UnionBank
- GoTyme Bank
- Metrobank
- Chinabank
Users can add eligible debit or credit cards by opening the Wallet app, tapping the “+” button, and following the verification process. Depending on the bank, card verification is completed using an SMS verification code or a phone call.
Apple has not yet published its official list of participating banks for the Philippines, so additional financial institutions could be added over time.
Apple Pay Is Already Working at Retail Stores
Users who have successfully activated Apple Pay report being able to make contactless purchases at retailers that already accept NFC payments.
Early reports mention successful transactions at stores including:
- Starbucks
- 7-Eleven
Once a supported card is added to Apple Wallet, customers can simply double-press the side button on an iPhone or Apple Watch and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode to complete a purchase.
Apple Pay also works for online purchases in supported apps and websites where the payment option is available.
The Philippines becomes the latest country to receive Apple Pay as Apple continues expanding its payment platform to additional markets worldwide.
