Apple Raises iPad and Mac Trade-In Values After iPad Mini Launch

Apple raised its U.S. iPad and Mac trade-in values today, lifting the estimate for every iPad and most Macs on the same day it announced the new iPad mini. The Mac Pro now tops out at $2,560 and the Mac Studio at $1,700, the two biggest jumps in the update.

The new maximums appear on Apple’s trade-in page. The iPad increases are small, between $10 and $20, while the Mac Pro, Mac Studio, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac all gained $55 or more.

Every iPad trade-in estimate rises by $10 to $20

The iPad mini and the standard iPad both gain $20, the iPad Air gains $15 and the iPad Pro gains $10, which sets the new maximums at these levels.

  • iPad Pro, up from $905 to $915
  • iPad Air, up from $510 to $525
  • iPad mini, up from $320 to $340
  • iPad, up from $280 to $300

The update lands alongside the new iPad mini, which has an 8.5-inch OLED display and the A20 Pro chip. It starts at $699, pre-orders open Wednesday, October 28, and it reaches customers on Friday, November 6. Trade-in credit can go toward it online, in the Apple Store app or at an Apple Store, so an iPad mini traded in at the new $340 maximum would bring the $699 starting price down to $359.

The Mac Pro gains $365 and the MacBook Pro has more than doubled since May

The Mac Pro and Mac Studio take the largest increases, each up roughly 16 percent. The MacBook Pro gains $120, the MacBook Air gains $90, the iMac gains $55 and the Mac mini gains $25.

  • Mac Pro, up from $2,195 to $2,560
  • Mac Studio, up from $1,460 to $1,700
  • MacBook Pro, up from $1,315 to $1,435
  • MacBook Air, up from $705 to $795
  • iMac, up from $385 to $440
  • Mac mini, up from $620 to $645

The iMac Pro is the one Mac left alone, still at up to $340. iPhone and Apple Watch estimates stay at their September values.

The MacBook Pro has had the steepest climb, from $690 in May to $855 in August and now $1,435. The MacBook Air went from $520 in May to $795 today. New MacBook Pro and iMac models are reportedly due at a Los Angeles showcase this week.

Final offers depend on condition and a 14-day window

Every figure is a maximum, and the final offer depends on the condition, year and configuration of the device. An accurate iPad or Mac estimate also needs the serial number, which sits under Settings, General, About on an iPad and under About This Mac in the Apple menu on a Mac.

Credit can go toward a qualifying purchase or onto an Apple Gift Card. On online orders paid in full, any value above the price of the new device arrives as an Apple Gift Card by email. Apple needs to receive the old device within 14 days of the new one arriving.
