Apple has seeded macOS Tahoe 26.6 Release Candidate to developers, keeping the weekly Monday release schedule that has defined this beta cycle. There are no new features in this update. Like every beta before it in the 26.6 cycle, this one targets bug fixes and stability improvements ahead of what will almost certainly be the final major Tahoe release before macOS Golden Gate arrives in September.
Apple seeded the first 26.6 beta on May 26, and releases have arrived every week since macOS Tahoe 26.6 Beta 3 on June 29. For reference, Beta 5’s build number was 25G5065a. The full cadence has been as following:
- Beta 1: May 26, 2026
- Beta 2: June 15, 2026
- Beta 3: June 29, 2026
- Beta 4: July 6, 2026
- Beta 5: July 13, 2026
- Release Candidate: July 20, 2026
Each release has shipped alongside companion betas for iOS 26.6, iPadOS 26.6, watchOS 26.6, and tvOS 26.6. Public beta testers typically receive access a day after the developer seed drops.
Apple’s focus for macOS Tahoe 26.6 is polish, not features. The software cycle wraps up in September when iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate ship, so this is Apple’s last real window to clean up Tahoe before attention shifts to the next generation.
With iOS 26.6 RC, Apple has included in the release notes that the release optimizes the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27 so it is likely that macOS Tahoe 26.6 includes this as well.
If you are enrolled in Apple’s developer beta program, you can grab the Release Candidate by opening System Settings, selecting General, and choosing Software Update. A free developer account is all you need. That said, this is still pre-release software, so the usual stability caveats apply. With a stable release likely a week away, waiting for the final build is a reasonable call unless you have a specific reason to be on the release candidate.
