Apple seeded release candidate versions of watchOS 26.6, tvOS 26.6, and visionOS 26.6 to developers today, putting all three updates one step from public release. The RCs arrive alongside those for iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6, which also reached RC status today. A public launch for all platforms is expected before the end of July.
Release candidates represent the final build Apple intends to ship unless a last-minute bug forces a revision. The fifth betas of watchOS 26.6, tvOS 26.6, and visionOS 26.6 arrived on July 13, one week after the fourth betas, and today’s RCs follow that cadence closely. The 26.6 updates are the last maintenance releases in the current OS cycle before watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 arrive in September.
The beta cycle for these three platforms has been almost completely quiet on features. The only functional change testers have surfaced across the entire cycle is a new alert that appears when a user attempts to block a contact after hitting the maximum limit for blocked contacts. Everything else points to bug fixes, security fixes, and maybe under-the-hood performance improvements, as expected from maintenance releases.
To put things into perspective, watchOS 26.5 added a new Pride watch face when it released in May 2026. The 26.6 release will not have anything comparable to point to.
Apple is simultaneously seeding developer betas of watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27, all announced at WWDC on June 8, 2026. Public betas for those next-generation releases are also expected in July, with final releases in September. That means developers are currently juggling maintenance builds for the current OS generation and preview builds of the next one at the same time.
If you are not running any betas, expect a bundle of bug fixes and stability improvements on your devices before August. The more meaningful software update arrives in September.
