Apple may be preparing a new way to manage device trade-ins through the Wallet app. Code discovered in one of Apple’s internal sales apps suggests users could eventually save trade-in offers to Apple Wallet and keep them available for up to 90 days.
The discovery was made by MacRumors in Apple’s Guide app, which is used by Apple employees, authorized resellers, and other sales teams during customer interactions. The code points to a system that would let users add trade-in offers to Wallet.
Apple Wallet Could Save Trade-In Offers for 90 Days
Several strings in the Guide app reference the ability to add a trade-in offer to Apple Wallet. One tells users that the offer will be valid for 90 days after being saved, while another instructs them to scan a QR code with their iPhone camera.
The exact experience is still unclear, but the feature could let customers receive a trade-in quote while shopping and save it in Wallet instead of having to keep track of the offer separately.
The reported 90-day validity period would also be a major change from Apple’s current trade-in process. Trade-in quotes are generally valid for 14 days today, meaning the new system could give customers significantly more time to complete a purchase.
The code also reportedly references a TradeInKit framework, which suggests the feature may be connected to a broader update to Apple’s trade-in system. However, the functionality is controlled through server-side switches that have not been enabled, so there is no guarantee the feature will launch in its current form.
The potential Wallet integration comes shortly after Apple increased trade-in values for many iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models. A longer-lasting digital trade-in offer could make the process more convenient for customers who want to lock in a quote before deciding whether to upgrade.
Apple has not announced the feature, and the discovery does not confirm when, or if, it will become available. For now, the 90-day Wallet trade-in system remains an unreleased feature found in Apple’s internal software.
