Apple just gave families a much simpler way to handle AppleCare. The company introduced AppleCare One Family on September 9, a plan that covers every eligible device across an entire Family Sharing group, up to six people, under a single $49.99 monthly subscription.
If you’ve ever tried to keep track of separate AppleCare plans for your spouse’s iPhone, your kid’s iPad, and the Mac everyone shares, this is aimed squarely at you.
What AppleCare One Family Actually Covers
AppleCare One Family carries the same core protection as AppleCare+. That means accidental damage coverage for drops and spills, battery replacement service, and priority access to Apple Experts when something goes wrong. On top of that, it adds theft and loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch models, with up to six claims allowed per year across the whole group.
So instead of paying per device or per person, one household subscription now stretches across every qualifying Apple product in the family.
How Many Devices Can You Actually Add
This is where the plan gets genuinely useful. Once you’re subscribed, you can add iPhones, iPads, and Macs belonging to anyone in your Family Sharing group, as long as the device is “less than four years old and in good working condition,” per Apple’s own wording.
Buy a new iPhone next year? It gets added automatically at no extra charge. The $49.99 price doesn’t move regardless of how many devices end up under the plan, whether that’s four phones and a MacBook or a house full of iPads.
Setting It Up
You’ll need Family Sharing turned on first. Head to Settings on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, set up Family Sharing if you haven’t already, and invite up to five other people into the group. Once they’re in, any eligible device they own can be pulled into the same AppleCare One Family subscription, so nobody has to buy or manage their own separate plan.
How This Compares to the Original AppleCare One
AppleCare One Family builds on AppleCare One, which Apple launched in the US back in July 2025 at $19.99 a month for up to three devices. That plan later expanded to Australia, France, Germany, and the UK. AppleCare One Family is the next step up for bigger households, letting families consolidate coverage instead of juggling individual subscriptions for every person and product.

Is It Worth Switching To?
For a household already paying for two or three individual AppleCare+ plans, the math works out fast. A single AppleCare+ plan for an iPhone alone can run close to $10 a month, so once you’ve got a few phones, a couple of iPads, and a Mac in the mix, $49.99 flat starts looking like an easy call. The bigger win is less about the price and more about not having to track five separate renewal dates and coverage windows for one family.
