Anthropic is upgrading Claude’s Chrome side panel into a full Cowork session, making browser-based tasks available across Claude’s desktop, web, and mobile apps.
The update means conversations started in Chrome are no longer isolated to the browser. They are saved to Claude history, allowing users to pick up the same work from another device or Claude app.
Claude Can Now Continue Browser Tasks Across Apps
Claude in Chrome can access the current webpage and interact with it using the browser session already signed in on the user’s computer. It can click links, navigate between pages, enter text, and fill out forms.
Configured Skills and connectors also carry over to the browser, so users do not need to set them up again before starting a task.
For example, Anthropic says a user could ask Claude to collect invoice information from several vendor portals and organize the results into a spreadsheet. The same Cowork session could then be opened on the desktop app to add local files or compare the spreadsheet with an existing budget.
Previously, conversations started in Claude’s Chrome side panel remained separate from sessions in the company’s other apps. That meant users had to leave the browser session behind when moving their work elsewhere.
The change also distinguishes Claude in Chrome from Claude Code’s recently introduced in-app browser. Claude Code uses an isolated browser profile, while Claude in Chrome can work with websites where the user is already signed in.
Anthropic continues to warn that browser-based AI agents can be exposed to prompt injection attacks. The company has additional checks for consequential actions when automatic approval is enabled, and Claude still asks for confirmation before actions such as making purchases or sharing personal information.
Anthropic says the safeguards can reduce the risk but cannot eliminate it entirely.
Availability
The Cowork side panel is available now to Max and Team subscribers, with a Pro rollout planned over the coming weeks. Enterprise administrators can enable the feature and limit access to approved domains.
Claude in Chrome is currently limited to Chrome and does not support other Chromium-based browsers or mobile devices.
The update makes Claude’s browser sessions more closely connected to the rest of its ecosystem, allowing users to start a task in Chrome and continue the same work elsewhere without losing the conversation or context.
