The new Mac Studio is scheduled to arrive for customers starting from March 18. However, a lucky customer in France received his order a few days ahead of the given delivery time.
Mac Studio is available with M1 Max and the new super powerful ‘M1 Ultra’ chips. In a square 7.7-inch compact package with 3.7 inches in height, the new machine is said to deliver unprecedented levels of performance and connectivity. Starting with the base model, there are USB-C and SD card ports in the front, and in the back, there are four Thunderbolt 4 ports (up to 40Gb/s), 10Gb Ethernet port, two USB-A ports (up to 5GB/s), HDMI port, and 3.5 mm headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones or external amplified speakers.
Both configurations also support powerful media engines, with the M1 Ultra providing twice the number of encode and decode engines than the M1 Max, allowing it to support playback of 18 streams of 8K ProRes 422 video.
In-person, the new Mac Studio looks nothing like the 2020 Mac mini
A reader of Mac4Ever, Simon, told the publisher that he had ordered the new Mac Studio with M1 Max chip from a store (the name of the store was not shared) on March 14, and an error in the store’s system, led to the next day delivery of his new machine.
As seen in the images shared by Simon, the 2022 Mac Studio looks like a powerhouse and much larger machine than the 2020 Mac mini. It is unequivocally taller which makes the new desktop computer a lot more noticeable; even with the same footprint as the 2020 Mac mini, it looks bigger because of its height.
Apple says it “fits perfectly under most displays” and in the presentation, it displayed Mac Studio with Studio Display, but users with third-party monitors might have to check the height of their monitors to know if the new Mac Studio will fit under it.
On the back of the new machine, the ports are under the ventilation grill to keep the system cool during heavy workflows.
At the bottom, the new computer has an elevated circular speaker grill and in the middle, Apple has beautifully embossed its “Mac Studio” name. In comparison to the new machine, the Mac mini’s design seems simple and a little boring.
