HomePod mini 2 ships Friday, October 30 without Siri AI. The assistant is the headline feature of the new $149 speaker, but Apple says it is coming later in a software update.
Apple’s HomePod mini 2 product page puts a footnote on its Siri AI section that reads “Coming in a future software update.” The press release repeats it and adds that Siri AI will arrive as a free update.
Apple Says Siri AI Will Reach HomePod mini 2 in a Future Software Update
Apple has not given a release date for Siri AI on the speaker. The press release lists HomePod mini 2 as compatible with HomePod software 27.2 but does not say which update will add the assistant.
The same footnote requires the owner of the home to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software, with Siri AI turned on and set to a supported language. Apple adds that usage limits may apply, and that expanded access to features relying on server-side models will be available for a fee in the future.
Siri AI will be available in English in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. The EU is not on the list, and Apple says Siri AI will not be initially available there on iPhone or iPad.
Apple TV 4K and Apple HomeView Get Siri AI Two Weeks Later
The new Apple TV 4K (4th generation) and Apple HomeView both go on sale Friday, November 13, which is 14 days after HomePod mini 2. Each costs $299 in the US.
Apple labels Siri AI a beta on both. It is available in tvOS 27.2 on Apple TV 4K and in HomeView software version 27.2 on Apple HomeView. The Apple TV 4K release adds that Siri AI is available at launch in the same eight countries, and that it also reaches Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) or later as a beta.
The HomePod mini 2 press release is the only one of the three to place Siri AI in a future software update.
Several HomePod mini 2 Features Depend on Other Apple Devices
A few other HomePod mini 2 features also come with conditions in Apple’s footnotes.
- Four-speaker surround sound needs the new Apple TV 4K (4th generation), which ships November 13, plus four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers in matching pairs.
- Voice control for Sound Glow needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running the latest software.
- Sound Recognition for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms needs the updated Home architecture, which is a separate update in the Home app.
Pre-orders are open now in the US and more than 23 other countries and regions, in pink, green, blue, white and midnight.
