StandBy on iPhone Duo starts without a charger and runs on either display, depending on how you fold the phone. Every other iPhone still has to be plugged in and set down on its side before StandBy starts.
Partially fold iPhone Duo like a book or like a tent on the Lock Screen and set it down to start StandBy.
StandBy on iPhone Duo runs on the inner or outer display
Folded like a book, the inner display faces you in landscape, and you can hold the phone that way too. Folded like a tent, the outer display faces you in landscape and suits glancing at information from a distance.
- Open Settings and tap StandBy, then make sure the switch is on.
- While you are on the Lock Screen, partially fold iPhone Duo like a book or a tent and set it down.
- Tap the current face, then swipe left or right to the face you want.
The same menu controls which positions start StandBy, and a checkmark appears next to each one you select. Turn on Only While Charging if you want StandBy to run in a supported position only while the phone is charging.
Each StandBy face can be customized, added or deleted on iPhone Duo
Unlock iPhone Duo and start StandBy, then touch and hold a face and tap the add button to create a new one. To change a face you already have, swipe to it and tap Customize. The options depend on the face.
- Style, Font and Color change how the face looks, including its color filter.
- Tap your existing widgets to change them, or tap the add button to add one. On the Modular face, Smart Rotate changes widgets automatically through the day, and Widget Suggestions shows widgets based on how you use iPhone.
- On the Photos face, Select sets which photos appear and how often they shuffle.
- Position moves the clock or hides it.
- The Appearance button switches between light and dark on faces that have both.
Tap Done when you finish. To delete a face, touch and hold it, swipe to the face you want to remove, swipe up on it and tap the delete button.
Night Mode and notification previews are set in the StandBy menu
Night Mode dims the screen in low light and shows items with a red tint. Turn on Show Notifications to see incoming alerts while StandBy is on, then turn on Show Preview on Tap Only to keep notification details hidden until you tap.
On other iPhone models, tap Display in the StandBy menu and choose Automatically, After 20 Seconds or Never to set when the screen turns off. On iPhones with an Always-On display, StandBy stays lit to show information. Without one, tapping the screen, nudging the table or telling Siri to turn StandBy on wakes it.
Wherever you charge iPhone with MagSafe, StandBy remembers the view you prefer at that spot. A charger in the kitchen can show family photos while the one by your bed shows an alarm clock.
