iPad and MacBook Air to get new screen sizes in 2023, as per analyst [Update: 15-inch MacBook Air]

Apple’s new iPad and MacBook Air updates in 2023 will ship with new display sizes. The MacBook Air currently ships with a 13.3-inch display while the iPad ships in display sizes ranging from 8.3-inch for the iPad mini to 12.9-inch mini-LED display for the iPad Pro.

New display sizes coming for iPad and MacBook Air next year

As per analyst Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultant (DSCC), the roadmaps for iPad and MacBook Air for next year, 2023, show that Apple will be releasing the devices in new display sizes.

Just released our Apple iPad and Mac roadmaps in our Quarterly Advanced IT Display Report and see new display sizes next year for the iPad and MacBook Air. Will likely include in our talks at the SID/DSCC Business Conference on 5/9 for those interested.

[Update: The analyst claims that a larger 15-inch Mac Book Air will launch in 2023.]

It is unclear as to which iPad models will get new screen sizes but it is possible that the base-model iPad, which did not see an update so far this year, and the new iPad Pro models, will get new display sizes. However, Apple is expected to release redesigned iPad Pro models with MagSafe this year, so either Apple will release them with new screen sizes, or Ross Young’s tweet can be interpreted as the devices being delayed to next year. Ming-Chi Kuo has already said that the new 11-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED display will launch next year, while another leaker had said that Apple will launch it this fall without MagSafe capabilities.

Similarly, MacBook Air is also expected to get a major new redesign with an M2 chip, mini-LED display, rounded edges, white display borders, MagSafe charging, and multiple colors. It is possible that this update might feature a new display size, or possibly Apple might push it to next year.

Considering that the MacBook Air with the M1 chip is selling very well, and is still way more powerful than other laptops in its class, Apple might release it next year. However, we will wait for other analysts and leakers to corroborate these reports before we can be assured of the postponed launch.

It is important to note that the rumors for the new MacBook Air have been all over the place. Some say that Apple will release the new MacBook Air with an M2 chip in late 2022, while other reports have suggested that Apple will release it with the M1 chip again.
