The launch of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 lineup is just around the corner and a new survey suggests that 14% of existing iPhone owners plan to upgrade to the new model, up from 10% last year.
Consumers showing more interest to purchase the iPhone 14 due to its improved camera, faster processor, and more
The survey, conducted by Savings, revealed that 14% of iPhone users are interested in upgrading to the iPhone 14. Out of those users, 61% of users cited faster processors as the reason behind their plan to upgrade, 54% want to upgrade to the improved storage capacity and 53% are excited about the rumored 48-megapixel.
More than two in three people planning to upgrade have phones that are less than two years old, suggesting anticipation is being driven by those who usually swap their phones as soon as a newer model is available.
Admittedly, the sample size for the survey is difficult to generalize as it only includes findings gathered from the information shared by 1,500 iPhone users.
Savings also provided a list of current phone models of users who plan to upgrade to the iPhone 14:
- iPhone 13 – 17%
- iPhone 12 – 29%
- iPhone 11 – 24%
- iPhone SE 2020 – 3%
- iPhone X, XR, or XS – 18%
- iPhone 8 or older – 9%
86% of the respondents revealed that they do not plan to upgrade to the latest model because their current model is still going strong. Adding on to this, 60% of users revealed that the expected price hike coming to the lineup is the reason why they do not want to upgrade.
In related news, it was recently reported that consumers are still choosing to upgrade to models from the iPhone 13 lineup rather than waiting for the upcoming iPhone 14 to launch.
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are expected to see the most demand out of the lineup with the numerous improvements they will feature like the A16 chip, a new pill + hole punch cutout for the display, and major camera upgrades.
The iPhone 14 lineup is expected to be unveiled at an online event on September 7.
