Apple is putting its newest iPhone right on the field for this Friday’s nationally televised game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants. More than a dozen iPhone 18 Pro units will sit throughout Dodger Stadium during the Apple TV broadcast, capturing angles a normal camera rig cannot reach.
The iPhone 18 Pro units will cover batting practice, player introductions, dugout views, and the atmosphere around the ballpark throughout the game.
More Than a Dozen iPhone 18 Pro Units Will Ring Dodger Stadium
The iPhone 18 Pro units will not replace Apple TV’s main broadcast cameras. They are placed as supplemental units, tucked into spots a standard camera setup would struggle to reach during live play.
The units are set to capture these moments throughout Friday’s game:
- Batting practice before first pitch
- Player introductions and walkouts
- Dugout level views during play
- Wide shots of the stadium atmosphere
Apple said the iPhone 18 Pro offers “unique perspectives that would be difficult to achieve with traditional broadcast cameras” thanks to its compact size. That size is also why the company keeps reaching for iPhone hardware whenever it wants a camera in a spot a broadcast crew cannot normally put one.
Apple Already Ran This Experiment at Fenway Park
This is not Apple’s first attempt at wiring an iPhone into a live MLB broadcast. Apple placed four iPhone 17 Pro units inside Fenway Park last year for a Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers game, and the results were strong enough that Apple brought the idea back for a bigger stage.
One of those iPhone 17 Pro units from the Fenway Park broadcast ended up on permanent display at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Friday’s Dodger Stadium setup uses more than three times the hardware, which points to Apple wanting a bigger presence on screen this time.
The game airs as part of Friday Night Baseball, Apple’s weekly doubleheader slot that comes included with an Apple TV subscription at no extra cost. Apple has also used Apple Vision Pro’s Apple Immersive format to cover Friday Night Baseball games this season, running alongside the standard broadcast.
