The iPhone Air 2 could be as thin as the iPhone Duo is when unfolded. A new rumor says Apple’s next iPhone Air will measure about 5.2mm, which is 0.4mm thinner than the current model.
The claim comes from yeux1122, a blogger on Naver whose reports have had a mixed record. Apple has not confirmed any details about the iPhone Air 2.
A 5.2mm iPhone Air 2 Would Match the iPhone Duo’s Open Thickness
The current iPhone Air is 5.6mm thick. Taking 0.4mm off puts the iPhone Air 2 at roughly 5.2mm, which is about 7 percent thinner.
That is the same figure Apple lists for the iPhone Duo when it is unfolded, which makes the Duo the thinnest iPhone Apple has made. The Duo measures 11.3mm when folded, so an iPhone Air 2 at 5.2mm would be far thinner in a pocket.
The iPhone Air launched in September 2025, and the rumored successor would be the first update to its design. Apple has not said when the iPhone Air 2 will arrive.
Rumors Pair the Thinner Body With a 3,500mAh Battery
An earlier rumor from Digital Chat Station put the iPhone Air 2 battery at 3,500mAh, up about 11 percent from the 3,149mAh in the current model. Both numbers are unconfirmed, and fitting a bigger battery into a thinner body would be a notable change.
Our earlier look at the battery rumors argues that the rumored 2nm A20 chip should help runtime more than the capacity bump alone. The same reports describe a 6.55-inch 120Hz display and Face ID.
The iPhone Air 2 is also rumored to get a second rear camera and a smaller Dynamic Island. The single lens and the battery are two of the main complaints about the current iPhone Air.
The iPhone Air 2 Is Expected in Spring 2027 Alongside the iPhone 18
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone Air 2 early next year with the iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e. Our iPhone Air 2 guide collects the rumored features, design and release date, and the 2027 product roadmap shows where it fits in Apple’s split iPhone schedule.
The iPhone Duo arrives first, with pre-orders opening on October 16 and the launch on October 23.
